Welcome to another installment of my "I'm So Early '90s It Hurts"(ISENIH) posts. I'm sure you're all OVERJOYED!

Was just contacted by a new member earlier today, who had done a search on Michael Petak, joined Mog & commented on my post here that I made almost a year & a half ago. That makes three strangers who've done so. So I got the bright idea to do a search on youtube to see if anyone might have loaded up a Petak video but nothing. Then I did a search on his previous band Carnival Art from the very early '90s and found this song "Mr. Blue Veins":

Found this summary on the band which pretty much says it all quite well: "The slightly bent guitar rock of L.A.'s Carnival Art took its lessons from the demented Pixies. Consisting of Michael P. Tak (vocals, guitar), Ed (guitar, vocals), Brian Bell (bass, vocals), and Keith Fallis (drums), Carnival Art released their debut LP, Thrumdrone, in 1991. Signed to Beggars Banquet, Carnival Art weren't heavy metal enough to jump on the grunge bandwagon in the early ‘90s, and they were too weird to for pop audiences; caught in limbo, the band recorded two albums of off-kilter alternative music that were ignored and then faded into obscurity. Carnival Art broke up soon after their second full-length, Welcome to Vas Llegas, and a subsequent EP, Blue Food and Black Sparks. A cover of "Cold Ethyl" appeared on an Alice Cooper tribute CD a year later, but Bell had already formed his own group, the Spacetwins, by then; he later joined Weezer. In 1994, Tak recorded Pretty Little Lonely as Michael Petak." ~ Michael Sutton, All Music Guide

I was not aware of this band back in the day. They have an interesting sound to them. Petak's voice is the obvious draw for me. I just love his unusual voice quality, all wavery & stuff. I actually found their debut "Thrumdrone" on Amazon.com for a cool penny(the shipping was $2.98, haha) so I'll be listening to this album soon & post it on the dark side for you all. The artwork up above is from their 2nd cd.

very cool that those people came on to contact you. I had remembered your post when I saw the name above and went back to re-read your first post and now this one. I still think the blue guy looks a lot like Ron Jeremy but that is just me

It really is a testament to who Michael Petak is I think Kev, the type of person he is, that people seek him out after years of no contact.

I love this song & the vid is pretty cool, especially the claymation sequences. I can see a resemblance to Ron Jeremy but Ron is far uglier!

WOW his voice sounds a lot like Brian Molko's! Which means, of course, that I like it!

Glorious band name btw.

Words can not express my adoration of this DJ group from Melbourne, Australia and this album. It's the ultimate mashup album long before mashup's were popular! It's SOOOOOOO good! I had to post this since these guys sampled 'Stool Pidgeon' from Kid Creole & The Coconuts which Mike The Knife posted HERE. The song didn't come through on my comment over there so I had to post it here.

The sample is from the first line of the chorus of the Kid Creole song & it's unmistakable. I love discovering samples in other songs. This one was driving me bonkers but I figured it out, thank goddess!

I saw these guys at Moby's Area 2 festival when they spun in the DJ tent in a extremely rare US performance. They were one of the first DJs up in the afternoon but they certainly worked us into a frenzy with their whacked out splice & mashings. I was dancing my ass off so hard, these guys just blew my mind live. They were INCREDIBLE! So glad I was able to see them live. And I made sure I got there early to see their set. So happy I did! They were all over the map with the songs they were spinning from top 40 dance to obscure ditties. A blast of a set!

And DAMN these guys for not releasing anything new since this cd in '01! What's up with that? Fuckin' slackers!!!

LOL! Got this album when it came out. Being Australian they will have spent all the money;

A) Getting Drunk

B) Pack packing around the world

C) Rooting

D) A, B & C

(Not that I would want to stereotype anyone....)

Mash it up again!;

Artist: Album: The Renaissance Track: Gettin' Up

GEEZUS! My man Q-Tip's new album "The Renaissance" has been postponed twice by Universal/Motown. When is the damn thang coming out? You can check out new song "Gettin' Up" on his myspace page HERE.

Q-Tip has also had two previous albums "Kamaal The Abstract" '02 & "Open" '05 get frozen in limbo land due to label disputes. How much bad luck can one man have? He released a "new" album "Abstract Innovations" earlier this year as an import. Huh? This cat just can't seem to get a break.

I loved his debut solo album "Amplified"(I bought it) but then I guess with "Kamaal The Abstract" his label didn't like the fact that he sang on the album & wasn't 'commercial' enough. Losers! Wtf do they know? I've thoroughly enjoyed it. Here's to hoping the new album gets released SOON! Shit, enough is enough! Let this brilliant, legendary & visionary rapper be free to make his own music. He needs to create his OWN label so he can do his thing freely.

New song "Fever" live:

Oatmeal says:

he does not fit the mold of the biz... they have no idea of how to sell him anymore. He is not a Native Tongue but he is also not a JAy Z or R&B guy. That is my opinion. Will keep an ear out, although it would take some seriously great singles for me to buy it. I just have not been able to take his solo stuff - still stuck in the Midnight Marauders faze I guess.

I've been waiting too. But sometimes I think like we all say here that when you do not fit a mold mainstream will NOT embrace you. Let's continue to love him on the underground level and give him praises!
