MUSIC SIGNPOSTS ON THE WEB'S LONELY ROAD

(24)

Last Thursday I went over to my fav music store and made a major SCORE! I found 10 $1.00 cds that I wanted. As you might guess, this Q And Not U cd "Different Damage" ('03) was one of the highlights as well as their "No Kill No Beep Beep"('00). I had heard of these guys but hadn't heard any of their music. I'm liking them alot. They definitely have Modest Mouse as an influence, which is good cause I like MM alot!

Picked up The Long Winters' "When I Pretend To Fall"('03) which I'm enjoying even though I'd heard last year along with their new one. I didn't really enjoy it then but it's amazing how a $1.00 score can make you appreciate the music so much more, heh! Go figure.

Also bought Sunny Day Real Estate's '98 cd "How It Feels To Be Something On" & I gotta say, I'm not too sure yet what I think about it. It's more Emo than I usually like. Maybe it'll grow on me, we'll see.

The Who's "Who's Next" re-released w/bonus tracks, a classic! So good.

Klaxons "Xan Valleys" ep w/ three songs on their cd, three unreleased songs.

An ep by a local boy by the name of Michael Richardson. I bought this mainly for the title since I used to work at a winery called Windsor. The title - "Windsor Ruined Me"! I had to have it, lol!

And finally the biggest score of all: Ted Leo & The Pharmacists' NEW promo cd!!!!! This won't be released until 3/20/07. It's a great cd w/lots of energy & well written songs. The cd itself is rather strange though. It was mastered into 45 second time slots, so each song is a cluster of 45 sec. time slots according to the length of each song. Weird huh? Think this was done to deter people from "sharing" it. A rather clever approach I'd say. I haven't even downloaded it onto my puter cause I don't wanna deal w/trying to upload a song to Mog. Toooo complicated, fer sure, so their tactic worked!!

Oh & the last two I bought for a friend who likes these artists: Richard Marx & Oleta Adams, UGH!

So for eight bucks I made a major score!(I don't consider the last two part of the score, lol). My fav music store is pretty damn incredible, don't you agree?!!!!!(They also seem to be kinda clueless as to what's good & what isn't which is good for me! Most of the staff are in their 50s so more into classic rock stuff & not so into hipster kinda music. Really nice people though!)

dude, richard marx and oleta adams?!? total score!! ;)

so for that ted leo cd, in order to share it, you would need to stitch together the 45 sec snippets together to create the song? interesting tactic. it would be easy with audacity (freeware) but kind of a pain in the ass...

No, no, no, no, not Marx & Adams, you goof, lol! And yes it would be a pain in the ass to stitch one of the Ted Leo songs together even with a program. That's why I shared the Q And Not U instead. What do you think of that song?

not bad - i've heard this band before, but not this song. i like the different parts to it. although, i must admit, i'm not a huge fan of snare drum on the 1 & 3 beats.

I can not remember the last time I bought a cd for a dollar, let alone have it be the Long Winters or Sunny Day Real Estate

sweet! So sweet. The song's not bad either, haha. Now - wasn't Oleta Adams the one that sang that song about "you can reach me by caravan...."? I liked that song.

@chucky, she was indeed the singer of "Get here", a tune, i believe, that was written by Brenda Russell

Kev, I've p/u many a great $1 cd at that store. They truly rock!

Anna, yes it's good, but can you stop drooling all over my Mog, lmao?! What are you hinting at?(Ask & you may get it!)

Chain, it's in Santa Rosa, The Last Record Store it's called. Cool Indy store!

Just looked at the cd again & it is Brenda Russell, not Oleta Adams as I said before. Yes, it has that song "Get Here" that Oleta did too.

Cody, thanx, I'm a REAL bargain hunter!

Neill, yea you have to get off your puter to find deals like this, lol!

Santa Rosa, cool. Close enough for me to make a trip there one of these days. I'd go soon if I didn't already have almost all of the things you picked up. How's the Ted Leo? I'm really looking forward to that album coming out next week, as well as his show at Slim's on April 14.

Anna, do you not know how to ask for something, lol? Silly woman! I know you're not much of a wallflower! @ = )

Chain, the Ted Leo is really hoppin', very energetic & political(of course). It's quite good. Because of the 45 sec. snippets it won't register as being played on my Mog damnit! C'est la vie! The $1 cd bins at Last Record Store get picked over enough that the inventory changes frequently. I tend to drop by every couple of months.
