MUSIC SIGNPOSTS ON THE WEB'S LONELY ROAD

Aussie psych- rock trio Wolfmother have split up and I'm pissed! Their 2005 eponymous debut, not only ruled but it also garnered the band a Grammy.

Wolfmother - Andrew Stockdale (Guitar, Vocals), Chris Ross (Bass, Keyboard), and Myles Heskett (Drums) - played their last concert this past Sunday at the Australian festival Splendour in the Grass in Bryon Bay.

The band's label Universal Australia Music released a statement explaining that immediately following the performance bassist/keyboardist Chris Ross jetted "due to irreconcilable personal and musical differences."

"They (Wolfmother) simply ask all fans to please understand that in spite of their best efforts over a long period of time, they just could not find a harmonious way to work together and that has lead to the decisions announced today," said to the Universal Australia press release.

Drummer Myles Heskett followed Ross' lead, and the pair have started writing songs and plan on starting a new project together. Stockdale will fill up the empty spots with new musicians, thus keeping the Wolfmother moniker alive.

"The label's statement went on to say, "Andrew Stockdale, Myles Heskett and Chris Ross will make no public statements at this time except to say that they are each really looking forward to making their new music over the years ahead." The last time I checked up on the band via their Web site it said they were happily hacking away at a new album. What gives?

Reading between the lines it sounds like the afro-haired frontman (Stockdale) started to become a major asshole and none of the other guys in the band wanted to work with him. So he got to keep the Wolfmother moniker, probably cause he's all "I AM Wolfmother" and the others jetted. Just sayin'. Right? But I could be totally wrong and maybe its because someone is huffing coke like its fresh air which never ends well. You never know with these things.

Anyone got the scoop? Anyone catch their set at Splendour?

Well...that's kind of sad.  They have some pretty damn good tunes and blew the crowd out live.  It was after their show (which I know did damage to my ears) that I started wearing ear protection.

Never had the chance to get into them.  Although, given my track record, I will love them since they no longer exist.  This is what happened with Splender and Stabbing Westward for me, to name a few (although Splender is coming back together, again - WooHoo!)

How many bands actually split after only one US record?  It was one LP and one EP, correct?

two EPs and one LP...but yeah...i'd say its a pretty premature split.
