Just saw a posting from one of my favorite local bands. I saw them last month do a set at the Crystal Ballroom for the NW Music Fest. To be honest it wasn't their best but I loved the 3 songs that I love no matter what level they are playing them at. 1) Weird - cos the Sax is just such a cool vibe 2) Pelican, great vocal and piano intro leading into Danny's incredible drumming (stood for an entire set next to him offstate once.. one of the most powerful drummers I have see... Hey gang... I'm currently working on a poster for one of my favorite bands, Menomena. They're simply brilliant. (if you don't have their latest, "Friend And Foe", why not? Early this year I posted my "Top Eleven" list of what I considered the best of 2007. The night after I saw Fleet Foxes, I went back to The Independent again to see Menomena. It was an okay show and they didn’t really do anything new from what I saw, but I got some good photos in the meantime. Here’s my full set.

I must be slowing down in my old age. It's become way harder for me to keep tabs on what the kids are listening to these days... even in the advent of all these helpful music networking sites!
A friend of mine casually mentioned that I should listen to Menomena's "Friend and Foe" (if I hadn't already), and sure enough I had not. At first none of the songs really grabbed me... then I latched onto "Muscle'n Flo," which rocks some KILLER drums, and an oh-so-perfect organ bridg... MORE

As some of you know I'm from (near) Portland and in my younger days I'd see many a show downtown and had about a B- in Hipster Studies based on the amount of time I spent in record stores and how many one inch buttons I had on my messenger bag. I wasn't totally suburban but yet I also didn't weigh 81lbs and have a fashionable alternative hairstyle and fashionable punk-inspired thrift-store clothes or smoke clove cigarettes with my Pabst Blue Ribbon.
