A great song that was made in the 80's and brought through the musical ages like a pair of boxer shorts that are just to well loved to throw away. They stink a bit but my god their lucky to still be around... and they appreciate you for it.

Now here's a really great live video from Tears For Fears, recorded live in London in spring 1984. Their first album, "The Hurting", was a big import record around my hometown (Long Island NY), sounding a bit like an evolution of the New Romantic sound - TFF was way less fashion conscious, more song oriented, looser. Tears For Fears put out a 12" of "The Way You Are" between the release of their debut album "The Hurting" and their massive worldwide hit "Songs From The Big Chair". Mass exposure for Tears For Fears kind of ensured that history would not look back on them kindly, and their pre-mega "Songs" material is somewhat overlooked, which is a shame. I have discovered what I like to think of as a secret of the universe. Anytime you feel depressed, just listen to Head Over Heels by Tears for Fears. If possible, picture the corresponding scene from Donnie Darko, one of the greatest movies of our time. If my theory is correct, any feelings of disdain or sadness will quickly pass, leaving only shiny, plastic coated 80's joy. It really is astonishing. Huzzah! A real movie song! This one I think if my favorite that I have found so far. The movie? Donnie Darko - the emo-est emo movie of all time. The song? Tears for Fears "Head Over Heels". Not only is the song kick ass, but it is edited into the movie perfectly. In my opinion, nothing fucks up a good movie song more than an awkward fade out but we don't have that problem here because everything is in perfect sync. Despite the slightly cheesy sounding sax playing at the start of this song, "The Working Hour" is a classic track from an album full of hit singles. This is a song I would love to cover, but I have nowhere near the vocal talent to even attempt something this great. Roland Orzabal is a flawless vocalist, and in the 80's & 90's wrote some incredible records. Has anyone heard the Tears For Fears cd called "Everybody Loves A Happy Ending"? I think it's an amazing cd and it kills me that it wasn't heard by more people. If you're into Beatles-esque pop, intelligent lyrics (except for "Call Me Mellow" - sorry!), lush orchestration, and catchy hooks, I bet you'll love this cd too. I can't believe how underrated these guys are. I think they're geniuses. I hope they stay together and make more new music together. So...has anyone... MORE
