A great song that was made in the 80's and brought through the musical ages like a pair of boxer shorts that are just to well loved to throw away. They stink a bit but my god their lucky to still be around... and they appreciate you for it.

Back in the day...

Some co-workers were discussing today's youth and their fondness for text messaging. As we are adults, we do not understand the need to send hundreds of text messages every day. We then spent some time discussing the days of our youth. This of course got me thinking about music from my younger days. Here's a little blast from the past: I believe I was around 11 when this song was originally released. It always reminds me of the movie Real Genius because it plays at ... MORE

==================================
I can't say I was a big Tears For Fears fan..but the few songs I know are pretty catchy. This song for example, has cute lyrics, and a neat synth line.
I picked this song because I was on hold the other day, and I heard th... MORE

Blog post image preview Now here's a really great live video from Tears For Fears, recorded live in London in spring 1984. Their first album, "The Hurting", was a big import record around my hometown (Long Island NY), sounding a bit like an evolution of the New Romantic sound - TFF was way less fashion conscious, more song oriented, looser. Every 12" release from the band seemed to have really strong live tracks, so we were dying to see them play Stateside. They may have done a few gigs, but didn... MORE

Songs I can't live without...

Blog post image preview I can hear the following songs each day and never get tired of them. In my opinion, these songs are all perfect and I wish I had written them! What songs can you not live without? 1. Ordinary World - Duran Duran (The acoustic version is especially great too), 2. Secret World - Tears for Fears (This is on their 'reunion' cd called "Everybody Loves A Happy Ending". I can't believe this song didn't get played on adult contemporary radio, at least!) 3. Daylight - J... MORE

Beyond Fantastic

How many other 80's greats can reunite and actually produce something that's just as amazing as what they did in the past, if not more so?

Essential 80's Tracks, Part 75

Free music video of the way you are (3)
Blog post image preview Tears For Fears put out a 12" of "The Way You Are" between the release of their debut album "The Hurting" and their massive worldwide hit "Songs From The Big Chair". Mass exposure for Tears For Fears kind of ensured that history would not look back on them kindly, and their pre-mega "Songs" material is somewhat overlooked, which is a shame. "The Hurting" sounded really different to anything else out at the time, both sonically and in terms of the lyrical themes they were e... MORE

Eureka!

Artist:
Album: 20th Century Masters: The Millennium Collection...
Track:
I have discovered what I like to think of as a secret of the universe. Anytime you feel depressed, just listen to Head Over Heels by Tears for Fears. If possible, picture the corresponding scene from Donnie Darko, one of the greatest movies of our time. If my theory is correct, any feelings of disdain or sadness will quickly pass, leaving only shiny, plastic coated 80's joy. It really is astonishing. In other news, I just found out about Say Anything, a great LA band. Th... MORE

Huzzah! A real movie song! This one I think if my favorite that I have found so far. The movie? Donnie Darko - the emo-est emo movie of all time. The song? Tears for Fears "Head Over Heels". Not only is the song kick ass, but it is edited into the movie perfectly. In my opinion, nothing fucks up a good movie song more than an awkward fade out but we don't have that problem here because everything is in perfect sync. The best part is near the end when the girls are doing th... MORE

Blog post image preview Despite the slightly cheesy sounding sax playing at the start of this song, "The Working Hour" is a classic track from an album full of hit singles. This is a song I would love to cover, but I have nowhere near the vocal talent to even attempt something this great. Roland Orzabal is a flawless vocalist, and in the 80's & 90's wrote some incredible records. I highly recommend this song to anybody who'd like to hear something from this group other than the standards, "Everyb... MORE

Music To Commute To

I heard this song on my walk from the bus (okay, really it was Walgreen's as I stopped there between the bus and the office) and work today. It's an overcast, windy, brisk day, and this song just totally fit with the vibe on Chicago Avenue.

Has anybody heard "Everybody Loves A Happy Ending"?

Artist:
Album:
Track:

Blog post image preview Has anyone heard the Tears For Fears cd called "Everybody Loves A Happy Ending"? I think it's an amazing cd and it kills me that it wasn't heard by more people. If you're into Beatles-esque pop, intelligent lyrics (except for "Call Me Mellow" - sorry!), lush orchestration, and catchy hooks, I bet you'll love this cd too. I can't believe how underrated these guys are. I think they're geniuses. I hope they stay together and make more new music together. So...has anyone... MORE
