Tom Waits doesn't often collaborate with others, but word got out that he wanted to work with Tricky. The Bristol producer who pioneered trip hop with Massive Attack in the 90's and who is set to release a new solo album next month, was told by Island Records founder Chris Blackwell that Waits likes his music and would like to meet with him in San Francisco. Tricky told the press:
"I can't imagine what will come out of it, but I know it'd be a brand new type of... MORE
Tricky used to be a kingpin of UK electronica, mastering his chops on the mic with Massive Attack and then releasing his own music, starting with Maxinquaye in '95. Now he's got his own label, Brown Punk, which he formed with Chris Blackwell (of Island Records and Bob Marley fame) and an album of fresh tunes on the way. The new album is called Knowle West Boy, named after the Bristol hood he grew up in, and features production collaboration with Switch (Kala's producer).... MORE
I am not one much for a cover song. I get stuck on an original artist's interpretation. Plus, in Alaska it seems some bands only reside to covers in order to make it. However, I have to admit that Tricky's version of Black Steel is an exception. Just wondering if any else out there has had a similar experience where a cover song is done better by another band. Better yet, do you enjoy this version by Tricky?

I would play the two song cassette over and over again. I liked songs like t... MORE
Just been updating my blog and I've finally gotten round to reveiwing one of the best British covers ever - Tricky's take on Public Enemy's Black Steel In The Hour Of Chaos. Truly awesome & imho, better than the original.....
Tricky is back in action and his new single, "Council Estate", is out now. The original is a track that sounds like it belongs in a Guy Ritchie flick, and its great. UK-based Dj crew Outlaws did one of the remixes on the Australian release and as its only available there, they sent us their spaced-out remix to share with you fine folk.
Oh, and did you know there's a remix contest going on? You can download the separate parts by logging on to the site and giving them y... MORE

Over the last two years a fair amount of people have been contacted, interviewed, visited, promoed etc for this blog (and the radio show The Spirit Of Albion) but very few people have come out as people I email for fun and keep a dialogue going with. Robot Koch is one of those people. I like messaging him about new music that I'm listening to, checking out what he's working... MORE
