MUSIC SIGNPOSTS ON THE WEB'S LONELY ROAD

So this song seemed to have been one of those songs that play a certain roll in a certain time in my life, and for what ever reason, seems to be coming on the radio a lot! So it gets me thinking about where I was when this song came out and all the crap I was enduring in my life at that time. But then I think of the good times that went along with it, and the people I met of whom have played a huge part in my life since then. Funny how things happen.

So my question to you fellow Moggers, what are some songs that have played major rolls in your life?

This is a great weezer song, always been a favorite.

For me...The entire Version 2.0 album by Garbage, it came along at the perfect time after a significant breakup. Humm, amoung quite a few other perfectly timed tunes and albums, but that one may be one that takes me back more vividly.

Lovely post... I love your question: "what are some songs that have played major rolls in your life?"

It reminds of a question that I used to ask to every writer/novelist I was fortunate to meet: "Has literature influenced your life and which way?" My favourite answer was from a minor French writer who said "Literature hasn't changed my life but it allowed me to ear a modest life as it were." Then he added: "Perhaps, the fact that I now drink my coffee without sugar may have to do with Kipling...He said tea should be drunk without milk. Does it make sense?"

Can I get back to you on this?

Yea Weezer too brings back memories for me. Maybe not this song specifically but their whole first album conjurs up memories of being an apt. manager in Portland, OR & the situations I was going through then.

Btw, the girl in the Weezer vid plays the daughter of Keifer Sutherland's character Jack in the show "24" but I can't recall her name(I think her first name is Alicia though).

Hey Augustus, you question is a bait to see who's a geek around here, isn't it? So be it, her name is Elisha Cuthbert :p

Augusts1, her name is Elisha Cuthbert, I know cause I'm a huge fan of the show, anyway, to answer the question placed before us, a song that's played a major roll in my life...that's a hard one, I'd have to choose Incubus' "Drive", I mean, it's such a great song, helps me on those days where I don't want to keep going, another song that just pops up at the oddest times would be STP's "Sour Girl", as for the Weezer song, I like Weezer, my fav would have to be, "Say it ain't so", anyway, just my opinion.

Bartleby, glad you enjoyed the question. Interesting "unofficial" response you had. I am still analyzing it..lol Take your time, I look forward to hear what you come up with.

August, I know! I love Weezer, it made me break out the weezer c.d and play The Sweater Song, Buddy Holly..all the songs that take me back to high school. Lol..and I did recognize her although it looks as if Bartleby knew the answer. :)

Haha Bartleby & James12, you are both BUSTED! We are all "24" geeks but then again ANYONE who is on mog is a huge music geek so the secret was already out.

Yea Sarah, I recall when "The Sweater Song" came out & I just f'n fell in love with it & the vid. Went out & bought the cd as soon as it was released.

I shouln't have abbreviated, that's just me being lazy, no, it's Stone Temple Pilots, anyway, I never said I wasn't a 24 geek, I love that freaking show, it just rawks, and I wouldn't call myself a geek, cause to be a geek you gotta know stuff you know? I'm more a movie junkie, I didn't even know she came out in that video, now I gotta go check it out...peace to you all, James.

Fabulous question Shudd, and I'm a Weezer fan so great song! Am probably going to have to ponder before attempting an answer. Some lovely French ballads/tunes recalled from childhood that my father would often sing as we took evening strolls leap forth - still catch myself humming them from time to time. I've had a musical soundtrack if you will playing in the background of my life and mind practically since birth, so choosing one or even a few is near impossible as so many are bound to emotions, memories, or experiences.

it is amazing how music can bring us back to certian times in our lives. Here are some songs/records with thoughts associated with them.

R.E.M. - The One I Love. I remember being in Basic Training (1990) and sitting in my wall locker listening to this song thinking about my highschool crush...how we dated but then she dumped me but I still loved that girl anyways.

Smashing Pumpkins - Gish. This whole record blew me away. Everyone else was blowing their minds on Nevermind by Nirvana....bull crap! Gish blows that out of the water! I was living in Hawaii at the time. (military) Great freinds from all over America and the world for that matter. I have many great memories cranking this record while tripping on acid with my friends. This would have been around 1991-92.

...I really could just keep going on this subject so I will just stop here. I almost feel like I could make my own pesonal musical history timeline it is so vived to me. Great post and great question Sarah. Rock on!

I always go back to my tried and true New Order. They have been there for me in so many situations, well I could not think back on my life so far and not think of them each step of the way

Grace (the song) Jeff Buckley... didn't quite know what to think of this, the son of Tim... by my third listen it became a second skin while I was in college - that entire album really.

But Depeche Mode/The Cure/The Smiths were my jr high & high school saviors & to this day come to my rescue !!!

Franz Ferdinand - Take Me Out. Because it took me out of an oblivious musical state and brought me back where I belong.

I love it! Those were all such great stories guys! I can agree that there are many more songs that we can all think of. But the fact that we all have our own "soundtrack" so to say, is a very cool thing. I wonder if everyone is like that, or just us music freaks...hmm...
