The Dirty Strangers were (are?) a British pub band built around the songs and singing of one Alan Clayton. They played a gritty rhythm n blues based rocknroll, sometimes sounding like Stones Clones, sometimes Brinsley Schwarz. Somehow, Mr Clayton knew Ron Wood & Keith Richard(s), and Mr Wood contributed some guitar to a few tracks on their debut. So give a listen, see if you hear Ronnie's guitar in there.
Happy Labor Day Weekend Lovelies! Us here in the US are about to bid adieu to summer nights, waves, warm benches, BBQs, clam bakes, fireworks, humidity, the smell of sunscreen, sandals (and the blisters that inevitably come with), summer music festivals (and the hang overs that inevitably come with), barefeet, farmers tans, sex on the beach, pina coladas, palm trees, surfboards, corn on the cob, ice cream running through your fingers (or hair if you are really unlucky... I think I've posted this before but I've been given an excuse to post it again. Ronnie Wood & Bo Diddley, now that's a pair of outlaws.
I blame Groon for posting one of the EP's by this Chicago band. One listen and I was hooked. Big, loud, noisy, and yet tender at the same time, Airiel put out some lovely noise. They put out four Winks and Kisses RP's in 2004 and 2005 (it was the Crackled EP that Groon posted), but their magnum opes at present is the full-length album The Battle of Seeland, released last year on Highwheel Records. They've also made some very good friends, as can be witnessed here, at t... MORE
You can find out a lot about rock 'n' roll by comparing The Kinks version of "You Really Got Me" to Van Halen's cover. When the Kinks released the song around the time of oh, I don't know, "I Want To Hold Your Hand," it was already ahead of its time. Completelty lustful with nothing but teenage sex on the mind, it chose to approach the subject subtlety, with the danger in the subtext and expressed in double entendres and innuendo that allowed such an incendiary song to be ... Besides MOG of course, where else on the web do you go to to get your music fix? Are there breaking music news sites or favorites you check regularly (or in some cases, hourly)? Of course there are the usual suspects, but I'm curious where you go? I need to update my bookmarks (and delete those spots that just aren't relevant anymore). Some of these I haven't visited in ages. Comments? Thoughts? Additions? Legit MP3 Promo Sites www.brooklynvegan.com (posters on he... MORE
OK So do any of you have a particular drinking song to share? I live in a dirty old town and this often causes me to join some of my mates in a drinking session. On a earlier post there was seven drunken nights...I have never managed to be drunk for 7 whole nights...Some may say I haven't lived I say maybe but I am still living! The song was written by Ewan Macoll whose daughter Kirsty sang Fairytale with the Pogues His dirty old town was Salford., which is not in Irelan... MORE
Mixed Emotions lyrics Button your lip baby
Button your coat
Lets go out dancing
Go for the throat
Lets bury the hatchet
Wipe out the past
Make love together
Stay on the path
Youre not the only one
With mixed emotions
Youre not the only ship
Adrift on this ocean
This coming and going
Is driving me nuts
This to-ing and fro-ing
Is hurting my guts
So get off the fence
Its creasing your butt
Life is a party
Lets get out and strut
Youre not the only one
That's feeling lon... MORE

Yes, Ronnie Wood has had a long and prosperous career. Good friend inrumford has started a fine series on the Music of Mr Wood and I would encourage everyone to read his posts. If you like masterful slide guitar than you gotta be a fan. From his 2001 cd Not For Beginners, This Little Heart, featuring guest vocals by daughter Leah
