WHERE MUSIC IS WORTH MORE THAN MONEY

It may seem like an odd pairing to fans of each group, but the recent performance by Portishead and Public Enemy together was a dream come true for Geoff Barrow.  At the Primavera Festival in Barcelona last month, Chuck D joined Portishead for the perfromance of "Machine Gun" off the Bristol band's new album Third.  Here's video  of it from nialler9:

(There aren't many videos of this rare moment, so I wasn't able to find any that are less shaky.)

Barrows is a major Public Enemy fan, whose early albums had a profound effect on the musician at a "turning point" in his life.  After the Primavera concert, Barrows stated that he could end his musical career, now that he has experienced this!  He went on to say, "It was a boyhood fantasy of mine…I was just laughing all the way through," according to a report on NME.  He described Chuck D as "heavy" and it seems Barrows became a total fanboy in the his presence:

"You definitely feel like some fucking tit talking to them, they're so heavy. I think I said 'We would be honoured' about 12 times."

I think it's awesome. It seems to me like a lot of folks are stepping up to reconize Chuck for his body of work.

i'm with you Sturgell, i think it's great that the music scene is in this place right now, where Chuck D can rap with Portishead and it makes sense.  and i thought the performance was awesome too.

I'd be beside myself, too, if I could convince Chuck D to rap live with me. All he did was make a good track even better.
