Asobi Seksu are often compared to My Bloody Valentine, but they've also proven that they do have their own special sound. That's partly why Polyvinyl has signed the band and are set to release the single "Me & Mary," both digitally and on 7-inch vinyl, on November 18.
Now, to be blunt, Asobi Seksu's lead singer Yuki Chikudate is very attractive and Asian. We all know that white guys like Asian girls. This is fine and dandy, of course, but how is it helping Asobi Seksu rec... MORE

Pseudo Cyborg
of Rapscallion The Ne'er-Do-Well, Erased Files
I guess Pseudo Cyborg isn't dead, after all. On Friday my friend Josh pointed me in the direction of an Asobi Seksu Remix Contest. Immediately my mouth dropped and I got to downloading the available assets. Not only is this particular group a favorite of mine, "Thursday" is one of my favorite songs. Opportunities like this don't come often and I had made up my mind that I would finish the remix, contest deadline achieved or not. I began work on Saturday by listening to... MORE
I actually didn't listen to much music while on vacation last week. I thought it would be kinda rude to slink away and slap on the headphones, and also not so nice to foist my music on my less-than-appreciative family, so the eighteen hours spent in the car were spent listening to the audio version of Harry Potter's latest exploits. Not a bad way to pass the time. Besides, I'm not completely sure of the effects of music-drunkenness on driving, and I had to stay sharp. ;) ... MORE

Back in his prime, Elvis Costello came out with a new record, oh, about every three weeks. The dude defined prolific: Check out his discography and you'll see he dropped a plater every year - and sometimes two in a single year. Obviously not everyone can be this productive. But why does it seem that the groups I anticipate new music from most are the slowest to make it? Let me answer myself: they're not slow, I'm just impatient. In fact, this very post was going to ... It's uh, been forever. Cheers to Sauce (should I henceforth refer to you as "Catchfire"? You sly fox...) for inspiring me to jump back on the mog bandwagon. Anyway. I've been out of my music rut now, and the songs keep coming. Actually, for reasons that I shall not make known, I have seldom left my house in the last week and have been in one of those horrific moods where crying just seems to be the right thing, or rather the only thing, to do. Yes, embarrassing. But I as... MORE
I work in an office building. Around 1:23 every afternoon, reality seems to distort, and the hallways suddenly seem to yawn and extend on for miles (like in the Lord of the Rings but also disregard that reference if you were like, "oh, what a lame reference."). It is in this time that i usually get a song stuck in my head, as it seems to take 8752 hours to get back to my desk. It usually only takes a moment, and I flare out my shirtsleeves, sigh, and begin again. Thur... MORE
Computer animated colors and shapes envelop the band and the song in all colors of the rainbow. Enjoy!

I'm not saying that people are necessarily any better today, or that it's any warmer-in fact, the air's a good bit colder than ice today in Chi-town-but my frozen extremities are a bit more comfortable with a little indie-rocker warmth courtesy of Asobi Seksu.
I'm thinking that it's highly possible that some other astute Mogger with incredible taste in music has already posted this YT video, but I'm too busy multitasking to do a search for a positive confirmation. So here's Thursday from Asobi Seksu's album Citrus. I've been listening to both of their full-length albums on repeat while driving and they've actually kept my mood cheerful enough to keep me from initiating at least 4 difference instances of road rage on some [bad] F... My first reaction as I walk in at 9:30 is that Blue Lamp has stripped its interior down . . . a lot. Gone are the benches in the back, now it's one open brick-walled space that's been repainted in darker hues. It definitely looks better but the acoustics were already harsh before and they will be even more so now. I'm glad I brought ear plugs. Asobi Seksu do their dream-pop thing pretty well, washing the haunting high-pitc... MORE
My live music withdrawl has kicked in full force tonight...must...see...show...now!
So I think I will head down to our local, lovable rock club and check out asobi seksu tonight, I mean they were nice enough to come all they way from NYC...i kinda feel obligated!
a few weeks ago, i was listening to citrus by asobi seksu in a secluded area in the woods (no drugs involved, i don't roll that way), and the song "strings" came on . some ear alarms were raised, and i quickly looked on my iriver for "this modern love" by bloc party to confirm my suspicion that the opening guitar was quite similar . of course they turn into very different songs, but the way both bands _ <--- (insert musical term there) is so recognizable that later i heard...
