Belle & Sebastian have announced that they will be releasing a new compilation album titled: "BBC Sessions". The compilation will include four previously unavailable songs recorded for John Peel's show called 'Shoot The Sexual Athlete', 'The Magic Of A Kind Word', 'Nothing In Silence' and '(My Girl's Got) Miraculous Technique'. I have a feeling of impending doom looming over me. Like maybe I made a bigger mistake this time. Perhaps all of the ignored misgivings were really trying to warn me about this. Belle & Sebastian's If You're Feeling Sinister LP is a sweet "while-you're-sipping-coffee-at-work" kind of album- I highly recommend it to my friends who spend lots of their time in front of a keyboard...I got a cup of joe; a little work to do, so I'm all over it right about now...check this (kinda grainy) live video for "Seeing Other People"
...if you're down, "Mayfly" (from the same session) ain't too shabby either...

In addition to being among the finest Velvets rips yet - constructed along more or less the same lines as "What Goes On" - "I Don't Love Anyone" is perhaps the most lovable song ever recorded about the inability or is it the refusal to love, a warm and sunny song about having a heart like a storm grate. It's funny. When I was in high school, I would have made fun of myself for listening to stuff like this, but as I get older I am enjoying this stuff more and more. God bless Scotland for Teenage Fanclub, Belle & Sebastian, and their delicious style of whisky.

So I am a little slow on the up-take...Belle and Sebastian have been around for ages but off my radar screen...what can I say? No one told me what exquisite pop music they make...not knowing where to start with them I decided I couldn't go wrong with a record that came out on my son's first birthday...

So, all those kids who have been paying big bucks for first US pressings and those recent UK pressings of the first four Belle & Sebastian albums...this doesn't bode well for you.
