As many of you have heard and a few of you have posted... Rock and Roll legend Bo Diddley passed today... Diddley has become one of my personal faves of the pioneers of rock and roll. It was when I first met Gary Trainer from the band New Math a decade ago and he was telling me about the Troggs song 'Gonna Make' which New Math had covered and he said 'You know it's got that Bo Diddley beat'... at that point I had come across Diddleys work but hadn't made the connection bet... Respect and admiration continue to flow after the passing of rock legend Bo Diddley's passing yesterday (June 2). Mick Jagger has paid tribute to singer-guitarist Bo Diddley as an "enormous force in music" and "a big influence on the Rolling Stones". One of the true originals has died at 79. Let us pause and remember him with the beat that defined him: bomp ba-bomp bomp, bomp bomp It’s a beat and a riff so essential that it helped fuel the careers of both Buddy Holly and The Rolling Stones. On a cloudy, humid day, I made the trek out to Randall's Island for a day of garage-rock, its anticedents and offspring, organized by Little Steven. I caught The Pretty Things, Nancy Sinatra, The Raveonettes, and the monument that was Bo Diddley. Just yesterday when I was driving, I had the CD player on shuffle and this magnificent slice of 1959 Diddley rhythm came scything out of the speakers, instantly producing a rocking and shaking vehicle. Today I hear of Bo's death. So very sad

   Death is never an answer, always a question.  Sometimes death sneaks up on little rat feet, taps you on the shoulder and poof, that's it.  Some dance with death their whole lives, they're really busy dyin' but they don't ever really die.  Others carefully weigh their every move only to have a Two ton hippo fall from a plane on to their speedboat as they're pulling water skiers. This is a couple of weeks late, but I wanted to post my very personal memory of the day I met Bo Diddley -  I was saddened, but not surprised, to hear that Bo Diddley has died. He was a true original. I had much respect for him as a guitarist, not because he was a virtuoso, but because he did one thing really well and he understood the power of rhythm.
