Cloud Cult is a band from Minneapolis, MN., that I was turned on to a couple of years ago by my friend Trevor of the band HIJK. The album they were touring in support of, Advice For The Happy Hippopotamus, was genius and ended up one of my favorite albums of the year.
Then I found out how eco-friendly they are -- they buy carbon credits to make up for the carbon footprint they leave by going on tour!

When I made my Top 10 (actually 11) list for 2007 I left two albums which I only discovered in January of this year. The first was Menomena, which I posted on earlier... Have you spent much time thinking of the environmental impact of your listening habits? Sure, the "environmentalist" attitude is growing more hip & maybe slowly mainstream.... with the likes of Radiohead & others becoming conscious of their Carbon footprint in touring. a video for "chemicals collide" from 'meaning of 8'. the video gives you bits of a live show...it is quite an experience! Cloud Cult's new release, coming out on April 8th, following up to last year's "Meaning of 8", moves past death into the afterlife where Craig Minowa and company spend most of the album. CLOUD CULT WAS FUCKING FANTASTIC (even though they didn't play Alien Christ. Tear.) It was really nice to see a band that I didn't have expectations and previous knowledge of. It was cool. Cloud Cult's album "The Meaning of 8" is by far the album you need to go buy right now. They're utterly mindblowing. They are my top pick of 07. It will remain that way unless, oh, 07 doesn't end? For all of you out there who have had the distinct pleasure of listening to Cloud Cult, I salute you. I must get the word out about this band. If you know anything about them, they refuse to sign to a major record label to stay eco friendly, sending their CD's through the mail without all the excess packaging and running things how they want. So please, if you get the chance, give them a listen. They changed my life, and hopefully they can change yours. It makes me hap... MORE
