What, No MOG Love for Blade Runner .......

(51)
Blog post image preview Release date was June 25, 1982 (also the birthday of my good friend Tom Caskie, 1969. Happy Birdhey, TAC) a movie production based on the book, Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Phillip K. Dick and directed by Ridley Scott.
If you have never seen this movie or read the book, you must have been living under a rock.
So what do you think of the "ultra-homogeneous society"? Corporations as civic entities all on their own terms? Androids? While your thinking here is the... MORE

Some Bands Should Provide Lyric Sheets

Others should not. R.E.M.? Not really. Feral Children? They seem to have something to say. The Wedding Present? Some of the best lyrics ever. Conor Oberst? Always a must-read. Cocteau Twins? Not so much.

For me, chants in music are the equivalent of abstract art; you rorschach yourself into a meaning and vibe. The vocal provides the human link, but the lack of lyrics allows you to bring your own experience or state of mind to the work (think audible ink blot.) The same track could resonate as being haunting/relaxing, sad/uplifting, or ancient/futuristic, etc., depending upon your mood, the time of day you listen to it, how much caffeine (or other substances) you have i... Chapter 19: Knowing who I am at every age...

(57)
To listen to a song like this for the first time in over half a year... I remember when I first heard this song. I fell in love with it. And it got me into some more stuff from this group who've since, sadly, broken up. Quite possibly one of the best non-new wave/technopop songs that mainstream will never understand. And that's fine with me. I never really understood mainstream pop anyway. Until the next round, Cheers! ~ 'Sunshine'

I don't know what it is about Cocteau Twins. There are those who put out sounds we just need, and others who put out sounds we didn't think we needed in order to go somewhere we don't really know of, nor want to know... regardless how conscious minded you think you are. Do you follow me? I admit it myself, sometimes I just don't want to know where I am. All I need is a sound that can accompany me; kind of like a nebula hovering closely above my head peacefully swaying a... MORE

Iceblink Luck. .Robin Guthrie (guitar) and Will Heggie (bass), both from Grangemouth, Scotland, formed the band in 1980. At a local disco, Nash, they met Elizabeth Fraser, who eventually provided vocals. The band's influences at the time included Joy Division, The Birthday Party, Sex Pistols and Siouxsie & The Banshees. The name Cocteau Twins itself comes from an early (unreleased) song by fellow Scotsmen Simple Minds. Their debut recording, Garlands (released by ... MORE
