Finally, as this record starts to cool I find a remix of it I actually like. DJ Shadow! He breaths new life into this track with the uptempo drums, scratching, and added guitar riffs. Pretty dope. OK. Fine. I admit. I missed this one. I don't know how it happened. Either it didn't make a big splash, or I got stuck playing Endtroducing... I guess both are true. Meanwhile, Josh Davis, who slammed the above mentioned monumental debut back in 1996, returned a decade later with a third DJ Shadow album. There are certain songs that just ooze brilliance. They make you lose words & fill your head with images. This is one of mine. Take a piece of catharsis, dip it in sweet-tasting tears, spray it with sparks & harmony, add a hint of heart-warming melancholy and you'll get the taste.
This is a video with a live version of it. I shudder just by the very thought of experiencing this song live.

This DJ Shadow dude is a frickin' genius. I wish I could pick his brain. I know I'm jockin', the guy but fuck he's awesome. And I totally respect him even more for doing the OUTSIDER album because he broke away from his usual style and made an experimental classic with Bay Area Hyphy artists like Turf Talk and E-40. Much love for dude. I hope he lives a long, long time.

I love listening to DJ Shadow. A lot of folks think Endtroducing was his best work, but I'm more partial to "The Private Press". This is off of his last album, which I was pretty disappointed with, except for this song and a couple of others where he really shined like his old self.

Last sunday (uuh..two[?] days ago) DJ shadow played the Hollywood Bowl alongside Cut Chemist in a tag team effort dubbed "THE HARD SELL".
