http://terriblelovesongs.blogspot.com As the 2008 Olympics festivities kick off, there are reports of pollution levels around the Olympic stadium in Beijing potentially reaching five times the levels deemed safe by the World Health Organisation.
Du Shaozhong, deputy director of Beijing’s Environmental Protection Bureau, said: "We made a commitment to ensure air quality for the Olympic Games . . . as for whether we have reached the goal, that will be examined after the e... MORE

Is sporting a band t-shirt a thing of the past? I hope not. Of all the shirts (collared and collarless) I own, I'd say roughly 75% are music or band related. I have record store t-shirts, the ambiguous "who-is-that-band?" t-shirt, the festival listing 25 different bands t-shirt, the record label t-shirts, and even the spoof t-shirts (ala Less Than Jake's pez dispenser homage to Slayer). We all bought overpriced concert t-shirts with the tour cities listed in alphabetic... MORE
Elvis Costello - This Year's Model: Deluxe Edition Roxy S. 8 out of 10 The man. The legend. The man behind the legend. It's hard to describe Elvis Costello without sounding like an episode of MTV's "Diary." The self-professed "rock-n-roll Scrabble champion" is known for his biting lyricism and wordplay. This Year's Model was Elvis's second album, and his first backed by the organ-heavy garage-rock combo, the Attractions. In 1978, when this album was first released, C... MORE
This album has been bouncing around in my head, recently. I think I could do a post on every song on the album, since it really caught my ear the summer it was released and really cemented my love for Elvis Costello. But, I'll let the track speak for itself.
Like so many big-name musicians these days, Elvis Costello will also release his next album in an "alternative" way. Costello's new solo studio album, Momofuku, will be released solely on vinyl with a digital download code included. The album is being released by Lost Highway on April 22nd. No word yet on whether the digital format will be available on its own. April 22nd also marks the day Costello begins his own headlining tour. Starting May 10th, the singer will op... MORE
I remember an interview with Elvis Costello, where he talked about this song. He wrote it on his 45th birthday, and he said it just sorta spilled out of him, all the different contexts of the number. I think it was kind of a mid-life pondering on not being young, and not quite being old. Whatever the inspiration was, it's some of the finest crafted lyrics put to a catchy melody I have ever heard. This is one of my all tim favorites, and a great start to an album as w... MORE
I’m putting this up at jennythek.muxtape.com, (and also there’s a download link in the comments at 30secondsover.blogspot.com if you want to listen to the songs over an over until you’re sick of them. IMO, it will take a while.) Anyway, as usually, it gets a little weird at the end. If you’re squeamish, you might want to stop after Shearwater. Elvis Costello, “American Gangster Time”During the MOG strike, I had a fairly extended last.fm conversation with Cody about th... MORE

Sort of proud of this Elvis Costello review where I wrestle with whether the quite good work of one of my all-time heros is quite good enough…It’s up at PopMatters today. Elvis Costello and the ImpostersMomofuku(Lost Highway) Elvis Costello, 30 years on since “Less than Zero”, sounds very much like Elvis Costello, abrasively intelligent, rhythmically unstoppable, harsh and soulful at the same time and, er, able to leap genres in a single bound. “American Gangster Time”...
