As I write this, I am technically a day late (though by no means a dollar short). February 7, 2008: J Dilla, Jay Dee, would have been 34. Donuts came out on this day in 2006 as well, and I bought it from Amoeba on that very day, completely unaware of what it would do to and for me as a music listener. I sit here listening to track 5 from "beat CD '05 #1" on repeat and am moved indescribably. (UPDATE: 8:25 AM - now it's "So Far to Go," the instrumental from The Shining, w... MORE
"Lightworks" is the latest beat from J. Dilla's masterpiece Donuts to get people rapping over it. Talib Kweli and Q-Tip rap over the beat for "Lightworking" from Peanut Butter Wolf Presents 2K8 B-Ball Zombie War.
I like the track, actually. I'm not sure if they really add anything to the beat, but they certainly don't ruin it.

He's bangin hoes in heaven now. If you can bang hoes in heaven. I don't know if it would be heaven without hoes or bangin.
met this song a bit ago. i was in the midst of papers, caffeine, and an internet connection that was hella detrimental to a long attention span. (thank god, though). my first reaction was to turn this shit up. my eyelids fell shut and i couldn't stop sighing. i mean, i love music with every cell in my body, but it's not often i just shutdown and have a moment where i lose the majority of my motor skills. instead, it moved me internally. and for the first time since his p...
