YAHOO!DENVER - "Rocky Mountain High," the late John Denver's love letter to his adopted state, became Colorado's second official song Monday. Lawmakers passed a resolution that puts Denver's 1972 anthem alongside the lesser-known "Where the Columbines Grow." Sen. In a hilarious NYTimes article, State Senator Bob Hagedorn, and the Colorado General Assembly, backtrack about the meaning of the John Denver song that they just proclaimed as the new additional state song. A few things led me to post this today. I have been reading a lot of posts from people who have re-discovered long lost classics in their collections. I also have been noticing the name John Denver a lot here on MOG. It made me go into my collection to find a tribute cd that a lot of my favorite Minneapolis bands participated in back in 95. I heard this song the other day driving through the grapevine heading to Los Angeles. For those not on the left coast the grapevine is the nickname for the Angeles National Forest which you hit on the way out of LA travelling north to San Francisco.
Anywho, I was amazed at how good this song actually is. Something really unique about the John Denver hits, they really don't sound like anything else.
