"Sick of Myself" is such a strong pop song, the rest of the album pales in comparison. If you can get over the let-down, there's some pretty good stuff here. The guitarists on the album (Richard Lloyd, formerly of Television, Robert Quine, who played with Lou Reed among others, producer Brendan O'Brian and of course Mathew Sweet) are more than competant with the great Richard Lloyd cutting loose on some cool but brief solos

Am v excited because Matthew Sweet is coming out with a new record in August! I am reminded how much I love that intro to Girlfriend (here's the video version-so 90's) every time my phone rings since I have it as a ringtone! (is that lame?)

My brother bought Girlfriend when it came out, but for some reason I never got into it. Having got the re-release, I'm really loving it now. That ragged guitar sound grabs me. The production is nice too, very separated, very Beatles.
I'm a complete sucker for layered harmonies. Lots of that on this album. Teenage Fanclub are great for those shiver-inducing harmonies as well.
