Okay, okay...you guys have been talking about My Morning Jacket and they've been spinning their songs on my favorite local radio station. I trust all of these sources but for some foolish reason, I haven't picked up the albums yet. Shame, shame too...go ahead tell me bout it. A few days ago Mogger Anna posted a fun, little poster game. Today comes another version of the game using protest posters. Last Thursday, I finally ended my summer concert drought and my long wait for catching My Morning Jacket in 2008. The band played Charlottesville Pavilion, my hometown venue. It's a great outdoor pavilion tacked onto the end of Charlottesville's downtown pedestrian mall and an awesome place to see show. The crowd was a bit sparse as the show got started. Perhaps it was the Thursday night bill or the band's attempt at being super punctual so as to play the maximum amo... MORE

So... as some of you may already know... I am a MOGbassador & have enjoyed immensely my share of MOGmeets over the last year+. This past Friday I finally got to meet the fantabulous jameson & his sister & fiancee (both named Jess) ;) We all met up at Festival Pier in Philadelphia to see My Morning Jacket. My Morning Jacket frontman Jim James has announced that he will play a show benefiting Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama . The all-acoustic gig will take place on October 8th in Chicago’s Schubas Tavern and will cost $100 per ticket. The $100 ticket will also get you a reception with Obama ’s chief of staff Jim Messina who is set to address the crowd following James’ performance.

My Morning Jacket played their second Glastonbury festival over the weekend. Sure they might be trying to make their reverb heard round-the-world on their current Euro tour, but the Kentucky rockers' performance at Radio City Music Hall on June 20th is still ringing in my ear. When I first got MMJ's Evil Urges, I was nervous for the band. I didn't like. I thought it was weird - Jim James going all R&B on tracks like "Highly Suspicious." Well, I have been wearing a groove in MMJ's new disc. Not sure you can still stay that since it really applied to the vinyl days but you get the point. I was a late comer to the MMJ party wagon. My wife on the other hand was into them immediately. We saw them open for Joe Henry in a small bar called Phoenix Hill here in Louisville right as a small buzz was being generated about MMJ.
