So tonight I went to my first trance rave. I guess I committed a major faux-pas though- when everyone else dances to the "Smells Like Teen Spirit" remix, that isn't your cue to start a mosh.
I don't think that girl will forgive me anytime soon...

When Nirvana was putting together Nevermind, an album that set the tone for the rock music of the 90s, they weren't all that famous. They couldn't make their album art budget stretch far enough to use a stock photo of a baby swimming so the photographer they hired, Kirk Weddle paid $200 to some friends of his, Renata and Rick Elden, for their use of their 4 month old son, Spencer, for the shot. Apparently this clip is kinda famous (I'm seeing it for the first time. Seiken pointed me at a miserable cover of "Final Countdown", and there in the related videos was something with the name of my high school in it.
I must have done like 6 plays/musicals and 10 choir/jazz/etc. concerts in this hall. They really didn't want us to play rock - now I see why...

I always find it fascinating to go to Amazon.com and read the negative reviews about great albums. For instance -- Nirvana's "Nevermind". While most reviewers there give it five stars, one in ten will give it only one (there's almost no in between). Here are some clips from the one-star reviews: "I am sorry but I just don't get it. April 5th will be the 13th anniversary of Kurt Cobain's suicide. He was 27. Only 27. I graduated high school in 1993, and more than any band that I have ever seen during my lifetime, Nirvana actually changed the landscape of popular music. I mean when Nevermind was released, it debuted at number one...knocking Michael Jackson out of the top spot, it that doesn't signify a sea change in American youth culture, I don't know what does. I write too much and listen to way too much rock music. After watching a documentary on the last few days of Kurt Cobain, and taking a look at the wikipedia entry, I must admit that there is a similarity between Boston's 'More Than A Feeling' and 'Smells like Teen Spirit'.
