Reminiscing about Venus In Furs: What Marilyn Manson, Velvet Underground and Of Montreal have in common

Free music video of Vegan In Furs (104)
Blog post image preview How one book, one concept, inspire a lifetime of muses, questions, and illusions. Today I was listening to Velvet Underground's Venus in Furs....and as a writer, loved the contradictory nature of the title of the song and decided to look up its derivation. I unraveled centuries of history- some dark, some romantic, all mysterious. First reference of Venus In Furs was the book VENUS IN FURS by Austrian writer Leopold von Sacher-Masoch. Published in 1870, it's abou... MORE

Let's Pretend We Don't Exist OR Let's Go Outback Tonight?

(19)
Blog post image preview Well, I made it to Oregon alive; however, I'd have to say I found the real challenge to be making it back in one piece. But I am in fact back. I'm a bit worn out, but believe that is a true sign of a kick ass trip: when your very body reaches the point when it can't handle all that you're taking in, well, that's how you know you've got yourself a winner. Vacation, from Latin vacātiō, vacātiōn-, freedom from occupation. It's exactly that, a break from the "real world" ... MORE

Consider me impressed. Dachmo clued me into it. Fellow Moggers PopeyePete, Cody B continued, with some nice mixes. So with this I revive the Mog Aggregation Challenge - post a whole album with only tracks available through the internet. So, listen if you will, to one of my favorites of 2007 (discovered only in 2008): Of Montreal's Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer?     xJmxPTEyMTM3MjU1MTQ2ODgmcHQ9MTIxMzcyNTUyMDU5NCZwPTE4NDMzMSZkPSZuPSZnPTE=.jpg" bor... I am so obsessed with Of Montreal's cover of this: which is M.I.A.'s cover of this: which is Parvati Khan from the movie Disco Dancer. Actually I'm obsessed with all of them. I want to listen to them all in a row, over and over. I wanted to play them all on my radio show today - instead I decided to calm down and just play the original. Next week, though, Of Montreal.

Blog post image preview With all the fallout for Of Montreal's song "Wraith Pinned To The Mist And Other Games" being used in an Outback Steakhouse commercial as well as a recent T-Mobile video shoot which featured the band, fans are learning that the group is making a effort to, well, cash in. In a open letter to Stereogum.com, frontman Kevin Barnes has made an attempt to at least explain himself.
Are you a sell out? Yes. Don't let it bother you though, cause apparently I am also a sell o

Weird song names

I never understood why some artists choose such weird for their songs. Usually the ones that do happen to be good its just slightly harder for us music aficionados to remember.

Watch the recent Amsterdam gig of these Montreal Indie rockers!
Of Montreal is an American indie pop band from Florida, formed by frontman and glam rock icon Kevin Barnes. The band is named after Kevin's failed relationship in Montreal.
Of Montreal's debut album 'Cherry Peel' came out in 1997, followed by 'The Gay Parade' in 1998. 'Aldhils Arboretum' (2002) was the start of a change in their sound. It became much more danceable, structured and the use of electronica in... MORE

Ten albums from 2007 that changed the way I live

There were a lot of good albums in 2007. And I mean a lot. I listened to as many as I could, but the sheer volume of good music that was released was at once overwhelming and heart warming. I was thrilled to be surrounded by all this artful sound, but also intimidated by the mass amounts.

In the end, I suppose it was a good thing.

But as I look back, there are about ten albums from 2007 that I feel particularly attached to. I listened to them the most, loved them...f... MORE

Klaxons, Of Montreal and Girl Talk Draw Hoards at Pitchfork Music Festival

Artist:
Other Tags: girl talk, Klaxons, Dan Deacon, Battles
Blog post image preview The VIP/PRESS pass gets you close to the music, usually the pit for the first seven minutes of a band’s set. This weekend with some finagling the power of the VIP got us on stage for one of the best sets at the second annual Pitchfork Music Festival. Held on the west side of Chicago in a neighborhood you could get shot in ten years ago, the three-day Pitchfork Music Festival was almost forced to shut down by the Chicago Fire Department Saturday night during Girl Talk’s set... Blog post image preview Holy crap it's been a shit long time since I've posted/wanted to post anything at all. But this is just too damn awesome to pass up. I'm sure you know these crazy bastards. And their crazy awesomeness. Well, the kindly folks over at You Ain't No Picasso, a pretty bad ass indie music blog, if you're into that sort of thing.... They've compiled a whole buttload of Of Montreal cover songs. And I mean...a whole buttload. Apparently he scoured the forums of the E6 To... MORE
