I'm a sucker for fuzz guitar and other subtly shit-hot leads ! There are plenty of underwritten songs and even entire albums (eg, The Pretty Things' SF Sorrow ) that I otherwise might not give the time of day if not for the soul-stirring fuzztone guitar parts. There are other songs, like The Blues Project 's version of "Back Door Man," that are loaded with subtly shit-hot leads that will forever be burned in my mind. Over the weekend, on the way to a soccer game, Edwin St... MORE

"Making love in the afternoon with Cecilia
Up in my bedroom (making love)
I got up to wash my face
When I come back to bed
Someone's taken my place"
Simon & Garfunkel tracks, once only available as A-track bootlegs, will now be making the live set Live 1969, due August 18th. The previously unreleased recordings are from the folk duos last tour before parting ways for the next decade and precedes their critically-lauded Bridge Over Trouble Water. Originally the live set was to be the follow-up to the 1970 album, but was put off till now, 37 years later. The disc is a collection of Simon & Garfunkel classics taken from... MORE
S P A R R O W Who will love a little Sparrow? Who's traveled far and cries for rest? "Not I," said the Oak Tree, "I won't share my branches with no sparrow's nest, And my blanket of leaves won't warm her cold breast." Who will love a little Sparrow And who will speak a kindly word? "Not I," said the Swan, "The entire idea is utterly absurd, I'd be laughed at and scorned if the other Swans heard." Who wil... MORE
Paul Simon sues Japanese clockmaker for using song NEW YORK (Reuters) - Singer and songwriter Paul Simon sued a Japanese clockmaker for $5 million for copyright infringement on Friday claiming the company used one of his songs as a composition on their clocks. Simon's lawyers accused clock company Rhythm Watch Co Ltd, and its U.S. subsidiary Rhythm USA Inc of using Simon's song Bridge Over Troubled Water on 40,000 of its clocks in the last three years without his permiss... I wouldn't want to re-paint the Mona Lisa, or say something more interesting like Nude Descending A Staircase . They are fine as they are, and are perceived as even "finer" the longer history frames them. Why fuck with that? But actually, it's not even that-- it's more: why recreate when you can generate? I make music from the perspective of a visual artist-- and the thought of painting another person's work is just, well, strange. To try to paint a copy would only end... MORE
Petros (Greek): rock ... Lapides (Latin): stone; rock ... So I guess I am a rock... "A winter's day
In a deep and dark December;
I am alone,
Gazing from my window to the streets below
On a freshly fallen silent shroud of snow.
I am a rock,
I am an island.
I've built walls,
A fortress deep and mighty,
That none may penetrate.
I have no need of friendship; friendship causes pain.
It's laughter and it's loving I disdain.
I am a rock,
I am an island.
Don't talk of love,
Well, I've hea... MORE
An interesting "Demo" version of "Bridge Over Troubled Water" highlighting what Paul was referring to in the previous post
I didn't use Kodachome of this era, but I think my father did once he bought a Leica IIIa in Wisconsin after World War II service. The Peter Apo post was kinda slow, so here's a live Simon & Garfunkel medley that's Monday morning lively. Kodachrome. If you used it, you were a serious photographer, even if you were "just an amateur." I've long since surrendered to the digital camera wave, but every now and then I dig out my 1960's Kodachromes and I'm off chasing "Maybell... MORE
My last post drew some interesting Flak, so I'm playing it safe, with a "Hippie Era," butterfly-light tune. I did wonder if Paul Simon was under some chemical influence when he wrote this song, but it's a natural high for most. I'm pretty far from New York City, Central Park, or the continental U.S., but here's something for a sunnny-turned-cloudy Father's Day Sunday.
I think the 60's had a lot to offer its youth unlike today. i mean drug wise it was i different thing in some ways the 60's drugs were a religious experience almost now today its more lets get fucking wasted. I'm not saying some people weren't like that then but it almost seems like everything meant more. Now people are rude and don't respect their elders like there parents or in my case grandparents would have. My grandpa says the only thing thats changed is the way we s... MORE
