The Police played what is being coined as their final gig ever last night at NYC's Madison Garden. And from the photo above..things got a little weird. Not only did the band give a shout out to famous band trios of all time covering Cream's "Sunshine of Your Love" and then later in the set the Jimi Hendrix Experience's "Purple Haze." The band gave a shout out to NYC's finest with Sting wearing a police uniform and added help from the NYC police marching band during "Me... MORE
So, tonight, I get the chance to tackle two musical firsts: Seeing Elvis Costello for the first time, and seeing The Police for the first time. I've never seen Sting, either, but this is a Police show, dammit. :) Links ahoy, so bear with me. I remember hearing "Roxanne" as far back as when I first lived in California, which was probably 1979. I'm sure I heard their music again in the intervening years, as "Walking on the Moon" and "Message in a Bottle" were familiar whe... MORE
"Woop Woop - it's the sound of The Police..." The Police will sound off for the last time with a concert in NYC in August. The band will play its final concert ever, a fundraiser benefiting arts programming on public tv stations WNET and WLIW in NY. In addition to the concert proceeds going to a good cause, Sting and The Police will contribute $1 million to the MillionTreesNYC project, which the city will match! The MillionTreesNYC initiative plants trees all over NYC. ... MORE

Last year’s Guitar Hero Championship was lots of fun, so I was looking forward to this year’s. It’s an interesting event to compare to the recent US Air Guitar Championship that I recently went to. Andy Summers, guitarist for The Police, hosted. I knew the second he said his first line that this event [...]

In 1982 Sting played the Devil in a movie called Brimstone and Treacle, and The Police wrote a devastating song called I Burn For You. Sting later covered it on his first solo album along with a few other Police covers, which at the time seemed to be a statement - I wrote these, or something similar. I go back and forth between the versions. It seems to me that the original version is more dangerous and the jazz version he did with Omar Hakim, Branford Marsalis and Kenny K... MORE

Could hear "Get Up Stand Up" by the Master Marley as we walked up to the stadium gates and were greeted with one of the greatest bands in the world. Can't even remember the opening tune cause I was in another world - couldn't believe I was there. Filth concert, sucking beer, watching the full moon, and one of the best gigs of my life! I will never forget it...ever!
