They're just... sweet sweet music. Some of my friends find them really annoying. I can understand their point of view... sometimes... James Mercer's voice can be found annoying perhaps.   But this little piece of live music brings me to other ideas. I think the Shins have a bit of a bad stage reputation? There's trouble in indie la-la-land. The Shins multi-instrumentalist Marty Crandall was arrested in Sacramento along with his girlfriend, former America's Next Top Model finalist Elyse Sewell, this past Friday (January 4th). A first listen of The Shins, addictively catchy tune "Australia" leads one to believe this is the happiest, most go lucky tune on the planet. It is the musical equivilant to laffy taffy. So sweet, so damn good, it just hits the spot. A second listen and you realize the song is about a stripper. Yeah, yeah, there's been debate on the actual meaning of the song. I like this song because the thought of a girl sailor never crossed my mind before. I guess there must be some women in the navy but I'd never call a woman a sailor, maybe I have though I say a lot of weird shits.

I'm still trying to figure out how the people at 99x, the local alternative radio station, managed to get Modest Mouse, The Shins, and Silversun Pickups all under one roof for their annual Mistletoe Jam. I think I can almost forgive them for playing Panic! At The Disco nonstop for three months (almost). Oh well. I have general admission tickets. And I'm beyond stoked.
