Word on the NY streets is that U2 frontman Bono and Development Economist and Director of the Earth Institute at Columbia University, Jeffrey Sachs, have teamed up with FT.com to blog daily about the United Nations’ Millennium Development Goals summit, which begins Sept 25th in NY. What are the Millennium Goals you ask? Crafted in 2000, the MDGs are 8 international development goals that 189 United Nation states have agreed to achieve by 2015. Goals include feasible me... MORE
So I recently proved to all my friends that I will do pretty much anything to win something U2 related. (I labeled myself a U2 whore and nobody disagreed.) Now, just a few weeks later, I'm whoring myself out again for another contest. Only this time I'm extra excited because I got to interview one of my favorite people I don't actually know: Matt McGee (aka M2). Matt is the founder, editor and my favorite part of U2 fansite @U2.com. Matt has been busy writing a book, ... MORE
If anyone has been wondering if I'm upset about the delay of U2's latest album, the answer would be YES. I have been too upset to discuss it. I've been employing my "pretend it doesn't exist and maybe it won't be true" method of dealing with things. Well this morning I was reading my favorite U2 fansite, @U2, and they gave me a reason to smile. Evidently, every time U2 has released an album in a U.S. presidental election year, the Republican candidate has won. This st... MORE
Don't go looking underneath your Christmas tree or Menorah for the new U2 album. The follow up to 2004's How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb won't be coming out till early '09. Dayum! That's five years in between! "We’ve hit a rich songwriting vein and we don’t want to stop," Bono explained of pushing back the release on the band's Web site. "This is our chance for us to defy gravity once again." WARNING: Bono getting very Bono here. "We have what it takes, we have the so... MORE
While I haven't started my official countdown to U2's new album release -- What? What's that you say? I should have it in my hot little hands in 97 days? Hey, thanks! -- I have been listening to the internet buzz and the latest just makes me laugh.
Supposedly the album will be released in the U.S. on Nov. 18. The rumored title is No Line On the Horizon and now the Evening Herald says the first single is going to be called.....Sexy Boots.
Really guys?
Really?
$495 had been raised today, as of 10 AM EST, in a petition effort to get U2 frontman Bono to "retire from public life." Started via ThePoint.com, a Web site that lets anyone start a campaign. the petition's goal is "to get Bono to retire from public life (so he'll stop leading misguided counter-productive philanthropy efforts) ....and, simultaneously.... to make a huge donation to fight AIDS." The sit... MORE
Having composed the music for the forthcoming Broadway production of Spider-Man, Bono and the Edge will release a U2 album based on their musical adaptation of the comic books.
Bono and Edge have written 18 tracks for Spider-Man: The Musical, a $25m production that is due to open in New York in October 2009.
The band will rework some of the musical numbers and include them on the album, which is due to follow their next release this November.

I have been reading a great book recently, The Power Broker, by Robert A. Caro. It is a biography of Robert Moses and is a great summary (1200 pages worth) of New York City and State politics of the the 20th century. It definitely has disspelled any notion that I may have had that I possibly could have done more to help society by being a politician. It seems that is hard for anybody to "accomplish" anything in politics without losing themselves. I was reading the book on... MORE

With songs pulled from shows across the summer of 1983, it perfectly encapsulates everything that made U2 so exciting at the time.

I was going to start this series with a post titled 'Lay Of The Land'. In it I was going to explain some of the topography of Bethlehem, you know talk about the hills and river and the awesome trout stream running nearby, but as luck or unluck would have it, I have something else to talk about. Especially while it is fresh in my memory. First a shout out to U2. When 'Boy' came out in 1980 I was probably listening to crap rock. What did I know I was 10 for God sakes. 1... MORE

I've been holding out for a while to do a "iPhone" version of Subdrive because I think it's a bit backwards to design a different site for every new device or resolution that comes out. Plus, you know, the iPhone is supposed to be the "real internet". However, I realized that browsing the site on EDGE or even 3G iPhones, or worse, if you're on a slow Opera Mobile phone, can be a horrible, sad, slow experience.
Hence why, as of today, if you point your mobile browser t... MORE

Today felt like a Dirty Day. The words in one of my favorite cuts off the very underrated Zooropa album were source of comfort in my day of exhaused chaos. The amazing thing about Dirty Day is that reminds me of my father and how, even though he's far from me, he influences me daily. He's within me. He's part of me. The good and the bad. This year I've only learned to not only forgive my loved ones but also myself for our past indiscretions. I used to hold mi amigos an... MORE
