Blog post image preview Wire is preparing for a new wave of tour dates while details of their upcoming new album are trickled out on the band's website. Object 47 is the band's 11th studio album, but it's actually the 47th release in Wire's full discography! According to the news page on Wire's website:
[Object 47] finds Wire utilising the core writing partnership responsible for Pink Flag, Colin Newman and Graham Lewis. The latest release is described by the band as having "tunes with zoom", a

The new Wire music is great and I've fallen under the spell of their whole catalog this week. Whatever Wire have been in the past [angular punks, uneven synth-poppers] they are now a driving, buzzing, popping and cooly aestheticized machine with newfound shamelessness in thier simple pop-hooks. They always had a catchy and harsh side, willing to engage with melody and then discard it to play with structure, narrative or irritant. Since their third incarnation took shape... MORE

Blog post image preview "Anyone brave enough to leave the tourist gulag of Midtown Manhattan knows that New York is to pretentiousness what the Vatican is to Catholicism, what Washington, DC is to politics, what South Baltimore is to crack, and what Sylvia's is to chicken and waffles. Can't count how many conversations like this one I've had since I matriculated a couple years ago: "friend: __ just opened/is playing tonight. Wanna go? Me: Fck that ***. I saw __ like, four months ago." Followed by... MORE

I was talking this weekend with a classmate about how much we loved to play Scattergories, when I brought up the distinct advantage we had when the best scattergory ever came up ... band names. That's an automatic 2-3 points in the bank for me, because my RL friends aren't going to guess the band names I know. More likely, they're going to challenge me. A foolish venture, especially if the host has Internet access. So, being bored and kinda geeky, I sat around this weeke... MORE

30 Songs/30 Days: Day 9

September 9: Wire, "Practice Makes Perfect" Although I may consider the Minutemen my #1 band, Wire is #1A. Not only did they form the creative precedent for the Minutemen (short, idea-based songs, constantly changing directions), but they did it earlier and quicker than any punk band with the possible exception of Pere Ubu (more on them some other day). No sooner than they come up with the tightest, most disciplined expression of punk's sound with their classic debut "Pi... MORE

I know, I know, spelling . Geez, gimme a break. It's late. Wire. I can't say enough. One of my faves is "I Feel Mysterious Today" from 154. I liked so much I painted the words (in acrylic paint) on a white T shirt. Wife made me throw it away. That old thing. (Insert awkward moment and tears). Man, Did I fall for them good. Salute!

Blog post image preview I absolutely love this band and this album. This song in particular has everything going for it... it is so clever! I have the album on vinyl but I'm reduced to play an old cassette from 1984. I played it the other day and thought, "oh, how perfectly modern!"

Blog post image preview Here's a few of my favorite tracks that come in under sixty ticks. 1. Field Day for the Sundays (0:28) - Wire - Pink Flag Leave it to the greatest art punk band ever to make a song that shivs the heart of the suburban, nine to fiver lifestyle in under thirty seconds. Godzooky! 2. I Saw Drones (0:28)- Boards Of Canada - Geogaddi Another track by BOC that pads their large repertoire of songs which are meant to be played against images of close-up, slow ... MORE

I think I'm figuring this out. It's like Last.fm except, so far at least, significantly better. I'm guessing you treat the postings like blogs. Well if it's a blog, I suppose I talk about what's going on then. Well, if you care to listen, I host a radio show at my college's online radio station. Check it out! I play whatever I want, it's pretty nice. Sonic Saturday4-6 PM Saturdays (Of course)http://wcua.cua.edu Other than that, I purchased Wire's Chairs Missing rec... MORE
