The bands I go to see and choose to write about fall into one of three categories. The first would be those that I have been a fan of for a very long time and am extremely passionate about. See The Jesus & Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine and since 2004, The Raveonettes.
Then there are the bands that I've discovered completely by accident (being in a venue for an entirely different reason) and enjoyed so much, I've gone back to see specifically for them.

im starting to think all bands from iceland sound like this... parachutes (insert golden parachute joke here) opened for sigur ros last sunday and i couldnt have asked for a better introduction to one of my favorite bands. leading up to the concert i was wondering if there were going to be any opening acts at all, being that i had not heard of any particular band nor saw any other name on the bill. i was a little disappointed when i walked up to the merch table and pi... I used to have a Yes box set, I gave it to a friend for his birthday. I thought it would be cool for a band to be called "No" and play all the songs backwards verbatim. I think it would be cool.

Azure Ray is getting back together people, just for a day, but they're getting back together! and God, I'd be so happy to be there, but I can't, so if you guys want to listen to two of the most soothing voices outthere - believe me, a fix of Maria Taylor's voice has kept me going on some days of madness when I was out of xanax and thought was having a heart attack or something due to whatever mental health issue I've been having for the past few mnths!- So yeah, I swear... It's No Reason
Crocodile skin water, city shadows waitPut your head into your hands, the ending is so great
Take a ride to sundown, buy a ticket home
Take all the things I've bought you, leave all the rest alone
Marble skins turn human, people fade to gray
Put your head into my hands, we'll make them go away
As you're crying softly, you won't ever be disturbed
Red on pink, the sun will sink, have you even heard? And the colors take me down
It's no reason to be sad
And you leave w... MORE

I've never been a huge reggae fan - not to the extent of hunting and buying oddball or rare material (as i've done and still do with Fairport Convention, Steeleye Span, Richard Thompson, Butch Hancock, Jimmie Dale Gilmore...). I enjoy a lot of reggae and its relatives when i happen to hear them on the radio, but that's about it. (Ska being a partial exception, i have and will buy some ska discs, but only certain performers/groups.) However, while following up on a polit... MORE
10 paces away, the 1st single of the Gin Club's double album "Junk" The lyrics in this song are just awesome.. so far I've listened to it 5 times today... Just two paces away she lay upon my bed She said she knew not why I did the things or said the things I said Just two paces away I softly shake my head And it'll keep on shake on shaking Until i'm cold and dead Now what good is all this paper What good could it bring What good are all these verses that will n...
